I got my kindle 2 yesterday.  After downloaded the first book, and played for some time, here are my first impressions:

Kindle 2 reviews

The good:

Kindle 2 looks really nice! The keys are much better than kindle 1.  The five ways button works really well. You can turn pages easily with one hand and read with one hand holding the kindle.

Kindle 2 is great for travel.  You can download your favorite books anytime.  You can take your kindle library with you and choose any book you like to read.

Kindle is a fantastic tool for learning English.  Classics are very cheaper to download, most classics are only $0.99.  You can look up the dictionary with the five way button very easily.  You can use text to speech feature to correct your pronunciations: this is especially important for students who learn English as the second language.

The bad:

the screen is relatively small. I wish to have a much big screen.  The background is too dark.  You need bright light to read comfortably. Turns of page bother my eyes.  The Internet browser is far from useful. There is no SD card and replaceable battery.

The ugly:

The kindle can only used in US.  If there is no sprint data coverage, you can not use kindle.

Best Canon wedding lenses

For in door wedding, very limited light is available.  Fast lenses, at least f/2.8, are required.  lenses  with image stabilization are even better.

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM is regraded as the best standard lens for small sensor cameras.  Although this lens is not  L lens, the optical quality is excellent.  Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L and Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS are the best standard lenses for full frame cameras such as Canon 5D.  Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM is definitely the best telephoto lens for both small sensor and full frame cameras.

Good portrait lenses are very useful in wedding too.  Some of the best are Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM, Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L,  and Canon EF 135mm f/2 LUSM.

Cnet kindle 2 full review:

cnet editors’ rating: Excellent (4/5)

with 2GB of internal memory, it’s capable of storing 1,500 electronic books; font size is adjustable; improved battery life; displays image files and plays MP3 and AAC audio; compatible with Windows and Mac machines; new Text-to-Speech feature allows you to have text read aloud

No expansion slot for adding more memory or accessing files; files such as PDFs and Word documents aren’t natively supported,

Amazon Kindle 2 offers a range of improvements that makes it the best overall e-book reader we’ve seen to date.

Review by David Pogue, New York Times

the new Kindle edges even closer to the ideal of an e-book reader. The reading experience is immersive, natural and pleasant; the book catalog, while not yet complete, is growing and delivered instantaneously; and apart from the clicky keyboard (an unnecessary appendage 99.9 percent of the time), the design feels right

Review by Steven Levy, wired

WIRED The best e-reading system on the market. Welcome improvements to aesthetics, more functional industrial design, better graphics and longer battery life. Sleeker than the original: A third of an inch thick and 10 ounces.

TIRED Quite expensive. Book content shackled with DRM. Interface is improved, sure, but it could be even better

When Canon XSi upgrade Canon XRi will be available?

In the past, Canon EOS rebel series of digital SLRs were upgraded every 18 months.

  • Canon EOS rebel or 300D, 6.3 megapixel, introduced on Aug 20, 2003
  • Canon EOS rebel XT or 350D, 8.2 megapixel, introduced on Feb 17, 2005
  • Canon EOS rebel XTi 400D, 10.0 megapixel, introduced on Aug 24, 2006
  • Canon EOS rebel XSi or 450D, 12.2 megapixel, introduced on Jan 24, 2008

It was predicted that Canon XSi upgrade, which could be called Canon XRi or Canon 500D, would be available sometime in the summer, most likely on Aug, 2009. Since Canon 50D has 15 megapixel sensor, Canon XRi would be 15 megapixel and of course, with HD video recording function to compete with Nikon D90.
